Welcome to the 2018-2019 Ice Hockey Season !

We're excited to get our skates on and hit the ice!  For families who are new to the program, or new to ice hockey, don't hesitate to email or call with any questions.  Our contacts are at the bottom of this email. Rosters are at the bottom of this email too, but I wanted to get the important stuff parents need to know, up higher. Please read through carefully!

PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

SUNDAY SEPT 30 at 630p is our Kickoff Skate and (Mandatory) Parent Meeting at Cabin John Ice Rink.

FRIDAY OCT 5 IS THE FIRST ALL-TEAM PRACTICE, AT FORT DUPONT ICE ARENA (Details below)

PARENTS:  You need a USAHockey number and Safesport training certification.  It's free. You need this to volunteer, and you can do so on our website.  Here is the link: https://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

TEAM MANAGER CALLOUT!  The U8 team needs a Team Managers!  Parent volunteers are an important part of youth ice hockey, and one of the most important roles is as team manager. The parent/team manager sends out weekly reminders of practices and games coming up, assigns parent volunteers to the 3 duties of each home game (scoring, game clock, and penalty box), liaises with the Board, works with the coach, and otherwise manages the team. We have online materials as reference. You can also contact our existing TMs to see what this entails. Apps make it easy. Anyone can do it!!! Please email me if you can step up. Each team MUST have a team manager.

PLEASE PAY YOUR OUTSTANDING UNIFORM INVOICES:
Please! We need this paid up before we can hit the ice.

PRACTICES:
Practices start on Friday, Oct 5 and will be on most subsequent Fridays at Fort Dupont Ice Arena.  We supplement our ice time with dryland training at Watkins Skate Park, on Capitol Hill.  Schedules will be finalized at the end of September.  Please continue to check the schedules and always be in touch with your Team Manager.

PRACTICE STRUCTURE:  U8 and U10 teams start at 6:10p sharp, with off-ice warmups and coach talk. They hit the ice at 6:30 and drill until 7pm. 7pm to 7:10p is All Teams Powerskating.  U12 and MS team start their warm-ups and whiteboard training at 630p sharp, and hit the ice at 7:00pm, Powerkskate until 7:10, and then drill from 7:10p to 7:50p.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES: Our ice slots are limited, but there are many ways for your player to improve their skating and hockey:  Go to public skating as much as you can. Good skating is the foundation of hockey. The more your players is on the ice, the better they will be. Coach Nat's  DC-ICE and Hockey on the Hill are great after-school programs and super complementary to our program. Kettler (Medstar) and Wheaton also have open stick n shoots, open ice times for hockey players to practice shooting on goal.

***FINALLY...last but not least, an invitation to a very special event:***
Our Coach Emeritus Willy Meaux is inviting all Titans Families to a fundraiser on Wed, Oct 3 support Play LIke a Champion, the national organization we belong to that promotes inclusive, developmentally oriented youth sports culture.
The fundraiser will be held on the night the Caps will raise their Stanley Cup banner in the Capitol One Arena, so there will be a screen at the venue and some serious hockey spirit!
Details can be found @ https://www.playlikeachampion.org/dc
Also, please share with those you think may support this benefit for sports programs for underserved children throughout the U.S.

OK that's it for now! As always, let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you all for being a part of our community, and

GO TITANS!
