It was a full house as all Titans gathered to celebrate the club's End-of-Season Banquet & Recognition Event on April 6, 2024 in DC! It was a joyous occasion that highlighted the accomplishments of our players, thanked our great coaches and team managers, and bid farewell to departing 14U players. Titans collectively reflected on this pivotal season for all members of DC Titans. Players were presented with commemorative pucks and shared a special moment celebrating the season with the coaches and families. Notably, the club celebrated its first non-CCHL tournament, along with the 14U championship win and 12U playoff runner-up at the CCHL's Joe Loschiavo Memorial Cup 2024 Tournament. The evening concluded with exciting news as Titans Youth Hockey prepares to celebrate its 15th Anniversary next season! The President and Board of Directors shared details about several events and activities planned for our anniversary with families.
Our Titans 8U Mites rocked the ice at the Washington Capitals Mites On Ice event during a thrilling game against the Detroit Red Wings on March 26, 2024! George Love #25 was interviewed post-game, Titans families had an absolute blast, and the energy was off the charts. Dylan Strome #17 clinched a heart-stopping 4-3 victory for the Caps in overtime to remain in the final Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Titans 10U, 12U and 14U teams participated in the CCHL's 2024 Joe Loschiavo Memorial Cup tournament. On February 25th, the Titans 14U won the Championship 14U Division II, staging an unforgettable comeback in the third period to beat the Howard Huskies 3-2. Congratulations to our 14U team for a great victory! On March 3rd, the Titans 12U secured the second spot in the 12U Division I, showcasing their great skills but missing out on the top position against the NoVA Ice Dogs. Well done to our hardworking 10U, 12U and 14U teams for a fun and exciting 2023-2024 season!
The Washington Capitals Rising Stars Academy was launched on Presidents' Day 2024, introducing a program focused on elite skill development and mentorship for players who are underrepresented in the sport. Titans players 14U Javier Love #29 and 12U Donald Cavanaugh #98 participated and were interviewed by WUSA9! DC Titans and the Washington Capitals share a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in hockey. Titans 12U team advanced to the playoffs in the club's first non-CCHL USA Hockey-sanctioned tournament, the Congressional Cup 2024, on Presidents' Day weekend in the DC metro area. The competition included teams from the US and Canada. DC Titans faced off against teams from NC, NJ, PA, and VA at Reston's SkateQuest. Our participation was made possible by the Washington Capitals - Monumental Sports' Capital Impact Fund and generous Titans donations.
The Titans were featured at the Maryland Black Bears game on February 2nd 2024, with highlights including a Titans stick tunnel entrance, an official puck drop by Coach Justin, a scrimmage during intermission, and a raffle supporting DC Titans. The high-scoring contest stayed close until a third-period rally by the Northeast Generals, resulting in a 6-4 victory over Maryland. Titans players looked great on the ice, and families had a fun night at the MD Black Bears game.
The Titans 8U Mites had a fantastic weekend at the Mite Beach Bash 2024 in Ocean City, MD, hosted at the Carousel Resort. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the tournament is a rite of passage for our Mites players and their families, prioritizing fun over winning. During breaks, teams enjoyed engaging in various activities and making the most of the resort's amenities. The good weather provided a perfect conclusion to January's activities for our 'Tiny Titans'.
On January 7th, the Washington Capitals celebrated Youth Hockey Day 2024. DC Titans actively participated in a showcase of local youth hockey programming during the afternoon game against the LA Kings. Titans 12U star player Mahamadou Traore #51 and Washington Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin #8 proudly wore our Titans jersey at the event! Titans families had a blast, and the Caps won 4-3 in a very exciting finale!
Despite a cold winter day, Titans families joined the MLK Holiday DC Parade 2024. 148 local organizations participated - the parade is a cherished tradition in the District, honoring Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of promoting global peace and non-violence. Titans must wear neck guards at all times as mandated by the Board of Directors. USA Hockey approved this for players 18 and under starting August 1, 2024. This safety measure, already adopted by IIHF, Hockey Canada, some US players in the USHL, NCAA, and NHL players like T.J. Oshie, aligns the Titans with industry standards to enhance player safety and emphasizes the club's commitment to prioritize player well-being.
For a second consecutive year, DC Titans was awarded a Capital Impact Fund grant from the Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. This grant is designed to support the recruitment of players underrepresented in the sport, provide financial aid to those in need, and ensure that the costs of participation remain affordable for as many players as possible.
Titans’ home rink, Fort Dupont Ice Arena, is undergoing renovations. Our temporary home is the Tucker Road Ice Rink in Prince George's County. As depicted in the renderings above, Fort Dupont Ice Arena is being replaced by a new $30 million state-of-the-art facility featuring an NHL-size ice sheet and expanded spaces. Currently in the construction phase, steel and concrete installations are underway.
The Titans marked the season with a Holiday Skate and Community Drive. The Titans collected 310 pairs of socks as part of our Warm Feet Campaign. Families also contributed several boxes of canned food and non-perishables. Both drives will benefit Miriam's Kitchen, a local nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness in DC. Players and guests skated to holiday music to celebrate the season.
Thanks to all who donated to DC Titans' year-end campaign, enabling us to cover ice costs and create new programming. With the community's help, our Capital Campaign exceeded its target! As DC's affordable youth hockey program, the Titans' mission continues to ensure that every child can enjoy the game, fostering sportsmanship, character, and courage.
The 2023-24 Titans Season is officially underway! DC Titans convened at our temporary home, Tucker Road Ice Rink, to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning families. Topics included the significance of recreational play, the Titans' mission and principles, and important safety tips. Coaches and Board Members shared their plans for the season with a focus on community building.
Titans players, coaches, and their families celebrated at the Titans' End of Season Banquet & Recognition Event on March 11, 2023. All players were awarded souvenir pucks to commemorate their hard work this season. Board members discussed plans for next year and thanked outgoing players and coaches.
